Reading is the foundation of education. Here at Edenthorpe, we explore reading and texts in a number of ways. Daily reading lessons take place in each class. Books are explored and the skills required to decode the language, vocabulary and information are taught and practised in each lesson.
Early reading is taught through the Read Write Inc scheme. A rigorous system is in place to ensure that pupils are accessing appropriately to suit their changing needs. We pride ourselves on working tirelessly to ensure that all pupils are set up for reading at the earliest stage.
Individual reading books are taken home and we encourage home reading. By accessing the Accelerated Reader system in school, the children choose from a wide range of books within their individual ability range. Following the completion of a reading book, the children are able to sit an online comprehension test to assess their knowledge of what they have read.
