The Cornerstones Curriculum

Our curriculum is delivered using a thematic approach delivered using the Cornerstones Curriculum approach (https://cornerstoneseducation.co.uk/). It is  a broad and balanced, knowledge and skills based curriculum with a creative edge.

Throughout the year, the children will complete at least 6 topics which will cover many of the curriculum requirements in all the subjects.  The topics all follow the 4 cornerstones to learning which are ‘Engage, Develop, Innovate and Express’. To begin, teachers will engage children in their new topic with a hook. This could range from trips outside school to themed days. The children will then develop their knowledge through exciting, thought-provoking lessons before completing their innovate project. When the children have completed their innovate project, they will express what they have learnt during an express event. This can range from a small event to a large event including parents.

Reach4 Academy Trust

Parents are sent half termly letters and have the opportunity to attend meetings which give details of curriculum areas and topics to be covered. These include details of homework menus and ways in which parents can support their children’s learning at home.

We are continuing to develop a curriculum which is relevant to our pupil growing up in our locality into today’s world. Pupils, parents and carers, staff and governors have all had the opportunity to contribute, giving us a curriculum that both meets the requirements of the New Primary Curriculum and the needs of the pupils.
